What is stamped concrete?
Stamped concrete is a decorative finish created from freshly poured concrete. Color is added to the concrete and then the concrete is textured using a variety of rubber stamps to leave impressions in the concrete creating the appearance of brick, stone or even wood.
How is the concrete colored?
The concrete can be colored by using an integral color that appears throughout the entire slab or by using a color hardener that is applied only to the top of the slab. We prefer to use integral color when possible so that if the concrete is ever damaged or wears excessively, it can be easily repaired providing years of durability and cosmetic integrity.
Will the color fade?
Efflorescence, weather and traffic can wear decorative concrete just like regular concrete. However, the damage and wear can be minimized by routine cleanings and resealing of the concrete.
Will it crack?
Stamped concrete is one of the most durable surfaces available today. However, concrete cracking is a natural occurrence especially in Michigan during our winter freeze/thaw cycles. We make every effort to control where the concrete cracks by saw cutting the concrete and using wire mesh along with steel re-rod.
Can stamped concrete be placed over my existing concrete?
If you’re existing concrete is in good condition it may be covered with a stamped overlay that is available in all of the same colors and patterns as regular stamped concrete.
How long does the process take?
Each job varies in size, access and conditions, however normal completion time is about 3-6 days.
What type of reinforcement is used?
We use wire mesh along with steel re-rod and when the situation calls for it we can also add fiber mesh to our mix.
How often will I have to re-seal my stamped concrete?
We recommend regular cleaning of the concrete with new sealer being applied about every 3-4 years.
Can I use salt in the winter?
NO! We recommend the use of sand and a plastic shovel to remove snow. Using a metal edge can scratch the concrete and sealer surface.
How much does stamped concrete cost?
Each job varies depending on factors such as site access, design and time. However if you plan on spending $17.00-$19.00 per square foot that should be a good starting point.
How much is an estimate?
Estimates are free and we look forward to seeing your project and helping you achieve just the right look for you to enjoy for years to come.
